It was at Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo that the first study was carried out for monovarietal planting in the Douro region. Between 1979 and 1981, together with the Portuguese Ministry of Agriculture, through the Center for Wine Studies of the Douro, the best solar exposures were chosen in Quinta Nova for the study of the plantation of three varieties Tinta, Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca.
Plot 29, planted with the Touriga Nacional variety, consists of 3,300 feet and a slope of 20 meters, located at an altitude between 170 and 205 meters. It represents a unique specimen and is a fundamental piece in the history of Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo in its maximum expression of terroir. A true Reference in the Douro that combined with the century-old vineyard (Parcel 21), results in a wine with a very elegant profile, almost feminine, contrasting with an intense structure of succulent tannins of huge precision. The schist texture, with high gravity, the sap profile and the purple color reflect nature well
of the Touriga Nacional variety.
