Aeternus pays tribute to an eternal work ethic, and to a man who loved the land, his family and his work. Américo Amorim had a rare and unique knack for the business. He started his professional career at the age of 18 in the family’s cork company and never stopped fighting for his ideals, transforming his company into the world leader of the cork sector and managing a business group that has played a leading role in Portugal and the World over six decades. True to its source of inspiration, Aeternus is a rare wine because of its history. It is born from the best plot in the terraced vineyards of Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo - a 2.5-hectare centuries-old plot that produces 0.4 kg per plant, with solar exposure to the south-west and a planting density of about 6000 plants per hectare. These are eternal wines, that recount stories and make time stand still. Vine by vine we can read our world, the wrinkles of the ancient vines, which store dreams, charms, promises, a living diary of wisdom and resilience, preserving the history of each vintage. The vineyard’s character shapes the full-bodied nature of the wine, softens its texture, and linearizes its progression without undermining its irreverent spirit. It harbours the complexity of different aromas and nuances - balsamic, cedar, blue fruits, spice, shale. A unique energy unites the wine’s firm structure and its silky texture offers an intense, robust and fully rounded body. We rarely appreciate such perfect harmonies. It has a very long, dense finish, with great precision.
